October 4 and 5, 2024
Pogo’s cold came back with a vengeance and he hardly slept. We had to leave early as we had booked a tour of the Eiffel Tower that started at 8:15am and we were 30 minutes away by Uber. Montmartre is a beautiful arrondissement but far from everything.
We met with our guide and group and walked to the beginning of the line and we were first. Yay! We found out that they open the gate at 9am so we had 45 minutes to wait. The gate finally opened only at 9:30am. Meanwhile our guide, who should have been entertaining us with her knowledge of the history of the Tour Eiffel, was instead questioning our knowledge…Do you know how old the tower is? How high it is? How long did it take to build? How many people worked on it? Who is on this picture? How long does it take to paint the tower? etc, etc. She would wait to hear for everyone to answer. So boring but we got a nice gold star at the end! Just kidding, no gold stars…
They finally opened the gate and we walked to the ticket counter where she bought all our tickets. We were 2 hours into our tour by then. We took the elevator to the 2nd floor where she was supposed to show us a few more things but we just continued to the next elevator instead to get to the top. It finally was a beautiful sunny day, perfect to enjoy the view. We walked all around then came down at 11am.
Derrick and Deidre decided to go to La Grande Epicerie de Paris and Pogo and I went to the Marché Couvert des Enfants Rouges. Another Uber of 30 minutes. The food market was much smaller than we expected so we were done in 10 minutes. We went across the street and had lunch at Café Charlot and shared a burger and a Caesar salad. By then, Pogo was ready to go back to the hotel to take a nap.
Pogo and I took one last walk around the neighborhood then the 4 of us had a quick dinner not too far from the hotel and went to bed early.

I told you the story about my husband at the top of the tower, right?
