Paris, France Day 18-19

October 2 and 3, 2024

We found a little café around the corner for breakfast. It was a cold rainy day so I just wanted to go back to our closet of a bedroom to get warm under the blankets but we walked around the Montmartre neighborhood for awhile then took a Uber to catch the beginning of the line of the Hop On Hop off. We had to wipe the seats off with the few tissues we had. It rained a little bit but we manage to see everything. We got out at the Latin Quarter, had lunch at the famous Deux Magots restaurant (Hemmingway apparently sat the same table we were at), walked around then took another Uber to the Catacombs where we were meeting our guide Rémy. It was so interesting and spooky in a way. We were 60 feet underground, looking at walls of human bones, 6 million people to be exact. It was also very cold down there and I was chilled to the bones… https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacombs_of_Paris

We took another Uber to go the Seine where our boat the Calife was waiting to serve us a delicious dinner with a view. Again we lucked out with a really good table. The food was outstanding with pâté de foie gras on half of the selections. We had shrimp, feuilleté of mushroom and foie gras, lamb, beef and delicious desserts. Or course we saw all the important landmarks while cruising and were passing the Eiffel Tower as it got all illuminated and sparkling.

When we left, finding a taxi was impossible so we called another Uber and it took 15 minutes for it to arrive. It was so cold!

Bone-Jour! (still have the catacombs on my mind!) This morning we had a late start as Pogo couldn’t sleep last night because he was coughing and turning all night. He was a little stuffy when he woke up but his cold disappeared as the day went on. We had a quick breakfast, went back to the room for Pogo to have a quick nap then we walked around Montmartre. It was still very cold but no rain. We had onion soups at Chez Plumeau then went back to the room at 2:30pm for another rest.

Pogo and Derrick went for a bike ride at 4pm. I wrote my blog while Deidre chilled in her room. Deidre and I met up around 5pm, walked some more, had a glass of wine then met with the guys for dinner at a ramen restaurant. Derrick and Deidre went back to the hotel right after and Pogo and I went for another walk. We were back in our room by 8:15pm. It was nice to discover more of the neighborhood of Montmartre today.
