Montreal to Innsbruck, Austria – Day 1-2

September 15 and 16, 2024

Welcome back dear readers!

On my 64th birthday…oops typo, I meant 46th birthday, after a special breakfast at home, Shaun and Sarah drove us to the airport in Montreal.  We arrived more than 3 hours before because Pogo needed to fix a mistake on his flight ticket. You see, out of habit, he wrote Randy instead of Randall when he booked it.  He realizes it the day before we left. He was hoping that they would be able to fix it at the airport. Unfortunately, after multiple calls to the airline and supervisors, they said it was too late and he had to buy another ticket!  The agent gave him an upgrade at a cost so he could get the seat that he had previously purchased…let’s say it was a costly mistake.

We had time to go to the lounge for a little food and drink. A gin and tonic calmed my nerves.

The flight was uneventful, the crew was very nice, the food was good and the seats, which were lie flat seats, were not comfortable when we tried sleeping. Pogo slept for awhile but I didn’t.

We arrived in Zurich at 6:30 am (12:30am our time), got a Uber to drive us to the train station, had a coffee and croissant at a café then took a 3 1/2 hr train to Innsbruck. It was a cold 42F cloudy day with occasional rain but the scenery was beautiful, first following the shores of Lake Geneva, looking at snow capped mountains in the distance and green grass everywhere else. We went through Liechtenstein and arrived in Innsbruck at 12:15pm. A quick taxi ride to the hotel Weisses Rossl to take a well deserved nap.

We walked a bit around the old part of town, stopped for a quick sandwich and soup at a café, tried my first wildberry lillet suggestion of Irene, did a stop at a Swarovski store because Austria!, had a coffee and apple strudel at another café and went back to the hotel to wait for Derrick and Deidre. Their last flight from Vienna to Innsbruck was delayed for 2 hours. They finally arrived at 8:40pm, checked in and we had a late dinner to cap a very long two days of traveling: South Hero VT to Montreal to Zurich to Innsbruck or USA to Canada to Switzerland to Liechtenstein to Austria and tomorrow Italy. We are quite the jetsetters!
