March 20 and 21, 2024
We were supposed to go for breakfast with Mario and Josée to Mama Nena this morning as they had never been but Josée had not slept well at all. We decided to go anyway. While there, a father and his daughter showed up with a speaker and started singing for tips. The little girl, maybe 9 or 10, had been badly burned all over her body and and had a prosthetic leg. It was so sad. As we left the restaurant, we said goodbye to Leo the manager. Suddenly 3 or 4 waitstaffs were telling us goodbye as well and wishing us safe travels. Such nice people.
We stopped at the barber shop for Pogo’s appointment and I did my Spanish lesson while waiting for him. Am I getting better? No soy…
Pogo took his nap, I did laundry and I folded all my clothes and continued organizing. Always so much to do before we leave. At least for me because apparently Mario and Josée pack their bins and luggage in 2 hours!! We went for our last dip in the pool around 6pm then we ordered sushi from Yeo and Pogo and Mario went to get it. We loved most of it but for the monkey roll. We have to reminder not to order it again. Unfortunately they didn’t write on the boxes what the rolls were so we don’t know the names of our favorites. It was nice spending our last evening in Nuevo with our friends.
Max had left the house around 3pm for her 7pm flight to Oaxaca from Montreal. She drove our car there so we will have transport when we return next week. Her flight was delayed by an hour but she finally arrived in Mexico City around 1am, local time. She took a Uber to the bus station, planning to take a 6 hour bus ride to Oaxaca when she realized that she had left her laptop in the plane! She called back another Uber, got the same driver who was like, what the heck? When she explained the situation, he drove extra fast back to the airport. She spent a few hours asking for help to the few people she could find but no one could find a Air Canada employee at that time. She got lost looking for a bathroom, ended up in a parking lot and saw a guy leaving with a Carl Jr bag in his hand and a red lanyard around his neck, an Air Canada employee for sure, she thought. She called out to him, he said the office was closed, she said she had left her laptop in the plane and maybe he would know where to send her. He said God sent you to me because I know exactly where it is. He went back inside the airport with her to his office and gave her the laptop!! It was 3:30am by then, too late to take a bus so she booked a plane ticket to Oaxaca, sat at the airport for 1 hour, took a 45 minute Uber to the other airport, went to the lounge, had a full body chair massage and was finally in her apartment by 10:30am. What an ordeal.
Meanwhile, on our last morning, we went to La Isla for breakfast to spend time with Graciela. We also talked for a while with Larry. We took a few pictures and said our goodbyes, came home, finished packing and put the decor back in its right place. We went to say goodbye to our friends, dropped off the car at the car rental and started our journey to Oaxaca. Our first flight was delayed but we still had enough time to get our connection. Once in that plane, we waited almost an hour to take off. We arrived at our hotel in Oaxaca at 11:45pm and Max was waiting for us. We chatted until 1am. Our room was nice but a little small and dark, especially the bathroom with the tub as tall as my thigh. I knew it would be a challenge to get into it with my knees. We will talk to the front desk in the morning.
