Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico – Day 35-36

February 14 and 15, 2024

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Dee stopped by to drop off a baguette. She had bought too many. We went to La Isla for breakfast. Graciela was sitting with two Profeco agents. Profeco is the Federal Consumer Protection Agency. I wondered if she was being questioned about a complaint against her business or if businesses go through regular audits. She was answering questions, sometimes talking on the agents phone but also coming to chat with us like normal. I was very curious!! Maybe Larry, who has breakfast there every morning, can let us know next time we see him.

We were talking to one of her employee about crocodiles, and she said, after seeing Pogo’s picture, that the crocodile swimming in front of our condo was very small! She said it was mating season and that we should be careful in the water. Who knew that since their habitats are being destroyed by more and more construction that crocs would adapt to the ocean.

It was another very cloudy day so we caught up on emails and blogs and news and TikTok’s and games and reading and napping. We had a nice chat with Mom who is doing really well.

It rained from about 2pm till 9pm! Just a light rain but depressing nonetheless. It’s our first time experiencing this. I think in the 7 years that we have been coming here, we might have had one day that it rained for 15 minutes.

We went to Yeo for another fantastic dinner. We had rock shrimp, truffled gyozas, sweet and spicy edamame, a moshi roll, a unagi roll and the banana flambé dessert. The edamame dish was my favorite. The drinks were again 2 for 1 and my margaritas were very good. Pogo enjoyed his mezcalitas as well.

Friday was cloudy and we had a little rain just as forecasted. Pogo played pickleball in the morning and I drove to PT all by myself. It went well until I came back and missed the exit. I had to drive on the “highway” instead and it made me very nervous with cars merging all over the place but I made it home in one piece although later than planned.

We went to Mama Nena at noon, hoping to have lunch but they were still serving breakfast until 1pm. I had an egg sandwich with panela cheese, tomato, lettuce, onion and bacon. Pogo had a huge breakfast of eggs, chilaquiles and chicken enchiladas with mole. We finally saw how they protect the restaurant from the rain with very colorful awnings that are usually rolled up.

Mario had asked for Pogo’s help communicating with a private chef because he wants to organize a little party to celebrate his and Josée’s 25th wedding anniversary. The chef transferred him to another one who transferred him to another one. By the end of the night, he was still discussing food option.

Around 5pm, Josée asked me to play another game of dice. Sorry Diane! She found another victim…I mean partner…to play with her! 🙂 It was a great idea since the weather was quite depressing and I had already opened a bottle of wine. She came over, I let her win that game and she helped me finish the bottle of wine. Mario had come over by then and was having a drink with Pogo. We ended up having burgers and more wine…Mario said he was going to get more wine downstairs (their condo is upstairs) so we didn’t let him get away with it the rest of the evening and you know you have some good music playing when Josée starts dancing on the table. Mario had us in stitches recounting a very funny story. What a fun evening!

Shaun’s travels update:

Wednesday, they did a little more fishing then they went on a tiki boat for drinks and to watch the sunset before dinner with Sarah’s parents. On Thursday they left for Orlando with a short stop in Tampa. They went to Disney Springs and to Port Orleans and sampled food and drinks in all locations. My son who never eats dessert even had beignets!

Maxime’s travels update:

Max and Luna have been enjoying the island of Siquijor. They have been staying in a beachfront cabana. They went around the whole island with one of the most reputable healers there. They gathered ingredients from many different locations to make a love potion. They met people along the way. The tour guide chipped some quartz out of a rock for them. She also found some agave and remembered that the Philippines is part of the mezcal story. On their return, they put their potions together in a perfume roll-on bottle and expelled their bad energy with fumigation. The potion/perfume will either attract love or mosquitos, she’s not sure yet.
