Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico – Day 21-22

January 31 and February 1, 2024

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHAUN!

I know that I’m supposed to write about January 31 but since I am writing this blog on February 1st, my first thought this morning was missing my baby boy’s 33rd birthday 😦

Pogo was awaken by a big bang during the night. We found out that one corner of the very heavy mirror in the small room had fallen and hit the wall by the sliding door. The impact was so strong that some of the outdoor wall plaster had spread out all over the ground. A good thing Mom wasn’t in that room anymore.

The guys had decided to rent electric bikes so we drove with them to the rental place and had breakfast at Mr. Cream. Our table was right by the tray of dirty dishes so birds kept flying over and around us to get to them. Our plan was to have a facial at the same little shopping mall but the technician wasn’t working that day and having only one, they wouldn’t have been able to accommodate both of us. We tried another place and it was the same issue. We walked around and before we knew it, the boys were back so we drove home together.

Deidre and I went to sit on the beach and I saw my little boyfriend Ryan who was feeling much better. Derrick went to see Dr Edgar at SportFix because of his back issues. After doing x-rays, the Dr said that his back was in bad shape. He has bone spurs, stenosis and arthritis. He gave him pills to reduce inflammation. He suggested injection next but though surgery would take care of it. He will have an MRI on Friday.

Pogo, Deidre and I went to La Gaviota next door for shrimp tacos. Our friends were sitting by the fence and we could see them staring at something. Pogo went to investigate and saw a huge iguana stuck in the fence. The guards were able to help it get through.

That night we went to the first day of the Internacional Charro competition at Hacienda Serena, about 45 minutes away. It wasn’t very busy, to find out that the teams competing were not the professional ones. The best days will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It was still enjoyable to see the different competitions and the beautiful outfits of the caballeros. They also had different booths with incredible sombreros, saddles, lassos, clothing, etc. We had a so so dinner of chicken teriyaki on rice at one of the vendors. We also bought a bottle of mezcal that we thought Max would enjoy. While watching the competition, a man came to talk to Pogo. He was a Canadian from Alberta that had taken an Uber there at 10am that morning and had not been able to get an Uber or a taxi back. He asked if we would get him a ride back. It was tight but we brought him halfway back to PV.

Thursday morning, on Shaun’s birthday!!, the boys played pickleball and Deidre and I went for a walk. I had Max, Michel, Edward, Mario and Josée send me a little video to wish Shaun’s happy birthday and I ask Pogo to help me put a little video together with pictures for the birthday boy.

We drove to Rincon de Guayabitos to go to Chicken Boy to have their delicious chicken. Derrick wore proudly the chicken boy hat we had made him for him last year. They didn’t even notice it. We then went to the restaurant Vista Guayabitos to have a soda and enjoy the view of the bay. I have to mention that on the way there and back, we took the new highway and we almost had an accident each way. First we avoided a car, then an 18 wheeler, passing on the 2 way lane in a blind curve and we didn’t see them until the very last minute. So scary.

I joined Deidre on the beach for a while, we all went to the pool for a while then we went to Yeo for dinner. Derrick and Deidre treated us to a fantastic meal!

Maxime’s travels update:

She has been enjoying Coron in the Philippines, went for a long hike but mostly has been catching up on work.
