December 24 and 25, 2023
Wendy, the cook and house keeper, came at the house at 9am to make us huevos rancheros for breakfast. We finished packing our bags and left Valladolid at 11am.
We arrived at Sensira, an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Morelos at 2:15pm for our last night of vacation.
Only 2 of the rooms were ready, there was some misunderstanding about a tax to be paid, and by the time we arrived at the restaurant’s buffet at 3:30pm, there wasn’t much left that looked appetizing. We had made a reservation at 9pm at the Italian restaurant, pretty much the only one available on such short notice, but were looking forward to it.
Our rooms were beautiful and right on the ocean. Shaun and I met up with Michel and Edward at the adults pool and hung out for a while. We got dressed, went to the mini golf course at 7:30pm. It was hard to play as there wasn’t much light. Also they only had 3 sets of 4 putters (s-m-l), 12 putters only for a huge resort, and only one long enough for Shaun. We ended playing for only 30 minutes as we were told that they were closing at 8pm.
We decided to go to the King’s Pub, a huge bar with pool tables. The place was empty but for 2 couples, one playing pool and one at the bar but no waiters. Shaun and Max went to look for one, saw a man with a walkie-talkie and asked him if he knew where the bartender was. The man talked in his walkie-talkie and someone came out of what looked like a closet. It was the bartender. We ordered drinks then went to dinner.
The restaurant had not atmosphere and was freezing with the air conditioner so we sat outside on the patio. Our waiter was really nice but scatterbrained. He kept forgetting things and always seemed to be running. The food was cold and we were told that the kitchen was closing so he needed to know how many people wanted dessert. Why make reservations at 9pm if the staff has to rush you through your meal? The food was just ok.
We decided to find the disco. We followed the loud noise. It was a black painted room with glow in the dark graffiti with loud hip-hop music. We didn’t stay long.
We all ended up in our room, Pogo played a few Christmas French songs knowing that Michel and I would enjoy them especially Minuit Chrétien, our dad’s favorite, and our tradition to play it at midnight on the 24th. We wished each other Merry Christmas and went to bed.
On Christmas day, we met for breakfast at 9am at the buffet without Max because she isn’t a morning person 🙂 and decided to go at the adult pool for an hour or so.
Michel and Edward finished packing and we met them at noon at the reception to say our sad goodbyes.
Max had arranged for a late check out for us, from noon to 1:30pm but they had not adjusted it online so we all found out when we returned to our rooms that our key cards were no longer working to open the doors. Grrr…we had to go back to the reception to have it fixed.
We left the hotel at 1:45pm and had to drop our rental car at the airport parking lot. Pogo, Shaun and I went in to check our bags (Max was checking her bag under Shaun’s name) so she was dropping the car off. The parking was full so she had to wait 30 minutes at the gate until a spot finally opened up. She was really stressed out. We sat at Margaritaville to have beverages and some food. I found out that Michel and Ted were sitting in their plane right beside our gate and the restaurant so I went to wave to them.
By the time we got in the plane, a big rainstorm had started. We left 30 minutes late. The lines in Atlanta for Immigration were humongous but thank god we had Global Entry. It took literally 5 minutes to get through. We had to wait for our luggage before transferring them over to our next flight. It took forever for them to show up. Then we had to go from Terminal F to D. We arrived just in time for boarding our flight to Burlington. We arrived in Vermont at 11:20pm, our luggage didn’t.
Merry Christmas!
