We got up early, packed our bags and met for breakfast at 8:15am. We had arranged for two taxis to pick us up at 9am to bring us to the ferry for our 9:30am departure. The streets were definitely starting to dry out and you could see how badly damaged they were.
We started our journey towards El Cuyo at 10:30am and arrived at 12:30pm which was now 11:30am because we changed into a different time zone when we crossed from Quintana Roo state to the Yucatán state.
We ate at a tiny restaurant called El Amigo Omar and had delicious tacos.
We had asked the Airbnb owner for an early arrival and we had to wait 30 minutes by the pool for them to finish cleaning the house so it was nice to be able to just chill out early at our new place which was right on the ocean. The beach still had remnants of seaweed from the past storm and it was still a bit windy. Some of us droned, some of us dipped their toes in the cold ocean and the cold pool, all of us sat in the sun, some of us went for a walk and all of us took a nap.
Max had made reservations months ago st El Chile Gordo, the best restaurant in town, and Pogo and I treated our crew to a fantastic meal! The restaurant was in the owners’ home Oscar and Kathy. The big square table had all 6 of us sitting with a view of the beautiful kitchen where we could watch Oscar prepare the delicious food. Kathy, the British wife, described every dishes and from what state they originated and how old each recipes were.
It was a fixed menu consisting of 9 courses and it was so tasty. We were served a mezcalita when we arrived then had hibiscus water during the meal. We had 3 types of unusual salsa, a pumpkin seed dip, a lobster aguachile, cochinita pibil, tacos norteño and tacos all pastor, a fish soup that was cooked in 1 minute by putting hot stones in it, chile nogado, mole con tomalito and dessert and cafe de olla. We finished with a digestive called xrabentún which is an anise liquor with honey. Such a feast.
During the meal, we were interrupted by a Christmas parade outside. So fun!
The owners were so friendly and their house was beautiful and welcoming. we were there for over 3 hours but it went really quickly.
We stopped at a little store to get water bottles, bananas and some kind of sweet breads for tomorrow’s breakfast since we are going on an excursion at 8am, and all went to bed.

Thanks again, this was SO delicious and special
