Nuevo Nayarit Day 82

April 1, 2023

Shaun got Max pretty good on this April Fool’s morning by sending her a photo of an ultrasound (which he created on AI) and telling her that Ashley and him were expecting. It took her awhile to realize the date so he had a good laugh about it.

We went to La Isla for breakfast and Andres was there instead of Graciela. They now are taking care of 2 kittens. Rosco is now called Leo and the second one, which is soooo cute, is called Casillo. Andres said it means small cheese. I checked the translator app and it tells me it means box. Oh well, I probably heard wrong. Almost unheard of but possible… We found out that the mother had the six kitten in the restaurant outdoor BBQ. She now comes back to get the 2 kittens during the day but doesn’t feed them so they have to get them back at night and they feed them. They also feed the mama.

We were asking him if the Mexican tourists were going to come to the restaurant during the Easter vacation. He said a few might come for breakfast or lunch but not for dinner. He called it the Oxxo, Kiosko, Walmart holiday, instead of Santa Semana, because people fill their coolers and go to the beach. We said our goodbyes to him in case we don’t see him before we leave.

I read on Facebook that yesterday there was a big traffic jam on the 200 which is the main road to Puerto Vallarta and the airport from our place. People were protesting about emission testing’s on cars with Nayarit plates (the state we are in) going to Jalisco (where PV is). The 2 states are separated by a river and a small bridge so everyone drives between the two states constantly. The road was blocked for hours. A drive from our condo to the airport is normally 20 minutes but it took people 4 to 5 hours to get there. Many missed their flights. People were also leaving their taxis and walking with their luggage 1 to 2 miles on the side of the road to get to the airport. They are expecting more protests. We will have to keep an eye on this and plan accordingly.

Mid-afternoon we went back to Punta de Mita to have a drink at Terraza de Manolo. I had a margarita, and holy moly, I felt it for some reason. Pogo had a beer and a mezcalita, his new favorite drink, and was totally fine. We shared chips and salsa. We were the only ones there. Oscar the bartender was telling us that he loves the fact that it is always quiet and that he didn’t want more customers when Pogo tried to give a few tips to attract more people. See you next year Terraza de Manolo!

Derrick sent us funny pictures of him “blessing” Mario’s car at our house, in honor of Mario “blessing” the restaurant we went together in Bucerias.
