Nuevo Nayarit Day 47

February 25, 2023

We left at 9:30am to go to San Sebastian. We did a few stops on the way. We checked out the little town of Las Palmas then stopped at La Panaderia Carmen, right by the bridge about 20 minutes from San Sebastian.

They hardly had any food left. They said Saturday mornings are quite busy. We had 3 pineapple empanadas and one chorizo breakfast bread as well as 4 café de olla. We tried some guava empanadas when they came out of the oven and took 4 caramel empanadas to go just out of the oven as we were leaving. The owner Carmen came to talk to us. She was happy that we had been to her panaderia before. We told her how much we enjoyed the food and the décor. As we were about to leave, she told us to wait and came back with a wrapped mug and plate with the name of the bakery on it as a little present. She gave plates to Michel and Edward as well. She took me aside and told me she was afraid that she might have to close next year if she doesn’t find help as she gets up every night at 1am to start baking. The two days they are closed, Mondays and Tuesdays, are spent shopping and doing housework. She sleeps about 4 hours a night. I really hope she find employees because her bakery is a gem in the middle of nowhere! Or course Pogo and Edward took the opportunity to drone.

We arrived in San Sebastian around 12:45pm and were able to visit the restaurant Los Arrayanes. The kids wanted to bring us there last year when we stayed overnight in San Sebastian but the restaurant was closed during the week. The décor is all about the Day of the Dead. Such a cool place!

We went to Jardin Nebulosa for lunch. It is another gem of a restaurant. It’s like stepping in a secret garden. It looks beautiful and the food is a gastronomy experience. The waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable and describe every morsels on our plates. We shared 2 appetizers, Michel and I had a ribeye with mole, Pogo had carnitas and Edward had wild boar. I wish I had taken a picture of the menu because I don’t remember the name of my drink but the presentation was outstanding. From the mouth of a “snake stone”, the waiter burned rosemary to flavor my raicilla based cocktail. Our glasses of mint flavored water were constantly replenished as soon as we took a sip. Everything in that restaurant was a feast for the eye. We went back to the center of town to walk around and do a little shopping. Edward did a little more droning.

We came home around 6:30pm, still nauseous from the switchback road and my foot hurting from my imaginary break pedal. We didn’t have any dinner, still full from our lunch. Michel, Edward and I played a few games of Rummikub while Pogo went into TikTok’s rabbit hole.
