Nuevo Vallarta Day 15

January 24, 2023

Pogo went to pickleball and I did a little session of Jazzercise.

I was supposed to have met Dee at 8am to go to the Tuesday market but she had called Pogo yesterday to let me know that she had hurt her foot on the beach when some drunk person made her fall. I had sent her an email and had offered to bring her to the local hospital since Pogo was going to pickleball and their car was in the garage but I didn’t hear from her. Instead I made plans to meet Pogo at the courts and we walked to La Isla for a late breakfast.

Both Graciela and Andres were there. We found out that Graciela had opened a spa so I asked her if she was doing hair color. She said she had a contact and she would get back to me. They also hired a manager for the restaurant so Andres can take care of the business part and Graciela will work part-time at the spa and at the restaurant. Every year they are on a new venture.

They had a noose hanging by the sink. Pogo said to Andres that he could never do that in the States. He said, we don’t have Klu Klux Klan in Mexico but we have “the doctor”. For example if an employee is taking too long of a break or if they complain about anything, they tell them to go see “the doctor”. Funny!

We came home and I had an email from Dee saying that she was 100% better and wanted to meet at the market. It was noon by then, I was all sweaty from our walk and didn’t feel like walking back all the way to the market so I told her that I would skip this week. We read on the balcony for a few hours. It is my favorite spot to hang out. The lounge chairs are very comfortable, you can people watch, listen to the waves, enjoy the breeze and be in the shade until around 4pm.

I called my aunt and she didn’t sound good. She isn’t eating much and is sleeping a lot. My cousin Martin, her son who she is living with, is away for 2 weeks for work and we think she is letting herself go until he comes back. She told me that she had decided to do the light chemo but they had not called her yet to start the treatment. My cousin Diane, who had gone to the oncologist told me that my aunt was confused because she had refused treatment. It is really sad. I also talked to another cousin Brigitte who confirmed that my aunt is really weak and looks like she might be giving up.

We were about to go the pool and had just prepared drinks to bring to Josée and Mario but they had just left the pool. We invited them over instead and we sat on the balcony for an hour. After they left, I made a salad for dinner and we watched a movie.
