Temozon Sur

January 4-5, 2023

We had breakfast at the hotel. We found out that the road to Chichen Itza was closed again. So sad to be so close and not be able to go.

We drove 1 1/2 hrs to Izamal, the yellow city. We drove around then had a delicious lunch at Restaurante Kinich. We walked around town, went to the Convento de San Antonio de Padua and decided not to do the calèche ride we had planned on because I was feeling weak and tired. Pogo droned for a while then we drove all the way to our next destination, the Hacienda Temozon.

Pogo had reserved the owner’s room and we got the royal treatment when we arrived. The staff was waiting for us to grab our luggage and park our car. Someone else walked us up to the hacienda and someone there was waiting with an hibiscus water for us. Our room was just amazing and the only room in the main hacienda. We had our own personal patio, table, lounge chairs and even a big pool. We didn’t used the pool as there was always a ton of leaves floating in it even though they kept cleaning it. It was nice to have our breakfasts and one dinner right outside our room. Pogo had booked a fancy dinner in their dining room and I almost made it till the end until I started coughing nonstop. Pogo sent me to my room….But I had time to eat a queso relleno and soooo happy I did! It is basically a ball of Edam cheese filled with raisins, olives, capers, and meat. Still drooling about it.

We spent 2 glorious days there, resting mostly. While walking the grounds, we discovered that they had their own small cenote. They used to grow sisal there and they still have all the old equipment. They also have a small church on the property. They have a really big pool and a spa. The only other thing we did, was visit an old abandoned hacienda Max had told us about. We would have love staying there longer but the room was booked. I told Max that it would be the perfect location for a family vacation or a wedding. Just saying. All that to say, it was definitely my favorite place I stayed in Mexico so far. I love haciendas!
