Oaxaca, Mexico – Day 15

November 1 2022

Happy Dia de Los Muertos! Pogo and I went for breakfast and we spent the rest of the morning at the house because 2 plumbers had arrived around 10:30am to install a water filter. It took them several hours and the water was somewhat clear but still not 100%. They also unplugged the faucets by cleaning the sediment. We were all bitter that we had to lose another half a day again to stay in the house because of repairs and didn’t understand why the owner wasn’t there to supervise instead of us. Max finally posted a negative comment on the owner’s Facebook page. She also told her that we wanted half of our rental fee back as well as our safety deposit by tomorrow otherwise she would contact a bunch of websites, including Airbnb to let them know the ordeal she had been through with her. She had not heard back from her of course by the end of the day.
Meanwhile, Pogo and I had decided to move to an hotel for our last 3 nights so we packed all our stuff. We arrived at the Quinta Real around 2:30pm. It is quite a beautiful old hotel right in Centro, with a beautiful courtyard and even a pool. The room was stark looking but the shower worked great!

We went to get a bite to eat and shared tacos and queso fundido. We walked around town to see more decorations and the streets were full of pop up makeup stands. We had decided to have our face painted and since our hotel was offering it, we had made appointments for 5:30pm. I had started to have a cough and had to constantly drink water to avoid coughing while doing my makeup.
When we were ready, we walked to Jalatlaco to see a parade. It wasn’t going to start for another 30 minutes and the streets were so crowded with people and we were all thinking of what had happened in South Korea so we decided to leave the craziness to try to catch it somewhere less busy. We ended up at a little outdoor restaurant and had a burger. It wasn’t very good so I didn’t eat much. The parade wasn’t great or at least what we saw of it. We walked to the park and found another celebration that was way more fun with a lot less people.
We then went to a tiki bar, had a drink, saw the smallest speakeasy hidden in a back room, walked back to Centro, had a street burger that was really good and went back to the hotel while Max and Hernan drove back to the house.
Penny is finally doing better! I added a few pics of the crowd at the end.
