Val’Quirico – Cholula, Mexico – Day 4

October 21 2022

We walked more around the village this morning and discovered a unique antique carrousel made in Italy.  I had never seen a double decker carrousel before. So beautiful!

We stopped at Coppelia for breakfast.  Pogo had a waffle and Max and I shared a torta chilaquile and fruits.

Max and I did a little shopping and I might have bought a few Christmas ornaments…

We finished packing our bags and the hotel porter came to pick us up with a golf cart since no cars are allowed in the village and the parking is quite a distance. He drove us around and we discovered even more of the village when we thought we had seen most of it.

There was a lot of construction going on, it had double its size since Max was there, so I’m sure it will be so much bigger if we ever come back this way.

We arrived in Cholula, our next destination, around 3pm. We stopped at a beautiful church totally covered in talavera tiles.

Fun fact about Cholula, it has 365 churches, one for every day of the year.  It is best known for its great pyramid with the Church of Nuestra Senora de Los Remedios built on top of it. We will go visit it tomorrow.

No more collaboration with hotels and the only rooms available in town were at the Hotel Villas Arqueologicas. It was a far cry from our loft. The rooms were cavernous with 2 single beds built in enclaves. It was an old looking motel but was very clean and had a pool and restaurant. The location was right across the archaeological center which was a bonus.

After checking in, we walked to town and went for dinner at Ocho30 and shared 2 pizzas, pesto and « meat lover », and tuna carpaccio.  It was all delicious.

We went back to the hotel, grabbed the car and went to discover a little bit more.  We had a drink at a square and visited another church. I’ve taken pictures of 5 churches so far in town. Only 360 to go!

We had a seltzer at the bar before going to bed. It was 40 pesos ($2) and I only had a 200 pesos bill. The waiter didn’t any change so Max and I gather all our coins and came up with 28 pesos… oups! Not only we were short but we didn’t have a tip for him. Soooorry!
