Puebla Mexico -Day 1

October 18 2022

I had decided to just post pictures on Instagram instead of writing a journal but old habits took over….so here we go.

Getting up at 3:30am never gets easy no matter how excited you are about an upcoming trip.

Since it was our first flight since April, it was nice to see that they had improved the airport security area, adding 4 brand new scanners instead of the previous 2, so we went through way faster.

Flights were uneventful except for the flight attendant having to run to the back of the plane while landing in Mexico City because a passenger had decided to get up and walk in the aisle, just a few seconds before touching the ground.  I’m not sure if she had to push him in his seat and sat on him but i can’t imagine how badly they would have flown to the front of the plane when the pilot put the breaks on.

Max was waiting at the airport for us with a rental car which she had driven from Oaxaca to pick us up.

It started raining as soon as we left. What the heck?  Isn’t it supposed to always be sunny and warm in Mexico?

We drove about 2 hours to go visit a church I had admired in one of Max’s picture. Calvary Temple (Templo del Calvario) is located in Ixtacuixtla in the state of Tlaxcala. It was worth the detour to see the colorful stairs leading to the Temple.

Our next stop, 30 minutes later, was at an upscale hotel called Casa Reyna in the historic part of Puebla City.  Max was able to get a collaboration with the hotel, getting 2 gorgeous rooms ($300 each a night) for 2 nights for free in exchange for some Instagram advertising.

We went for dinner at the hotel restaurant and shared chalupas and a mango ceviche for appetizers. Pogo and I had mole poblano with chicken and Max had green pipian mole with chicken.

We were all so exhausted by then that we went straight to bed.
