Mexico – Day 85

We saw at least 6 dolphins close to shore this morning but haven’t spotted whales in a while.

We went to Luna Luna in Bucerias for breakfast then went to see the progress of the replacement of the kissing bridge. It looks like it will be done soon but not before we come home. We then went to Centro to find a beaded mask for Max’s collection. She also bought a little orange beaded pearl necklace that exactly matched her shirt for 3 dollars.

We had decided to go on a little car excursion. We stopped first in Sayulita because Max wanted to replace a bag she had bought there 3 or 4 years ago. They didn’t have the exact same style anymore. We walked around to try to find it somewhere else but had no luck. She still bought other cheap bags that can be used for the beach or grocery. The town was as crowded as ever and we couldn’t find where Pogo was waiting for us.

On our drive we stopped to a small Santa Muerte shrine. Nuestra Señora de la Santa Muerte (Our Lady of the Holy Death), often shortened to Santa Muerte, is a “cult image, female deity, and folk saint in folk Catholicism and Mexican Neopaganism. A personification of death, she is associated with healing, protection and safe delivery to the afterlife for her devotees”. People leave flowers, candles and sometimes drinks and food while visiting.

We also stopped at a small cemetery as Max had never visited one. It was small but just as colorful and thoughtful as I had seen before. We took a ton of pictures.

Our next stop was a small town called La Peñita, a small beach town located on Jaltemba Bay with a beautiful view of Coral Island. We took a walk around, saw multiple murals and the plaza. We had a drink at a little restaurant and moved on to our final destination: Rincon de Guayabitos.

I was hoping a little chicken restaurant we had been once would be opened but noooo…They are closed on Wednesday. Jeez!! Hopefully I will remember next year. We found a restaurant up the hill with an incredible view of the bay so it was all worth it. The beach wasn’t crowded as it is usually during the weekend so it was nice to show Max the beautiful one mile stretch of beach with its gentle waves.

We got home in time to watch the sunset. We finished The Power of the Dog movie. I can’t say I loved it. A little slow for me. We watched the first episode of the new season of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel while eating paella leftovers.
