Mexico – Day 78

I woke up to at least a dozen roosters competing with each others to find out who had the loudest cock-a-doodle-doo.  I don’t know how people can sleep in this town without ear plugs.  I was under the impression that roosters crowed only in the morning but in San Sebastián it is all night long.

We had complimentary coffee in the fancy lobby of our small hotel, checked out and went for breakfast.  Shaun had found a “sugar skull “ themed restaurant to surprise me but it was closed.  We’ve encountered a lot of closed restaurants that are open only on Saturdays and Sundays.  We went back to the panateria we had been on Monday and all had a chorizo bread and coffee.

We went down the windy mountain roads all the way to PV, took a few pictures in Los Arcos and Boca de Tomaltlan and had lunch in El Tuito at the little restaurant with the cute courtyard we always go to called El Patio de Mario. We arrived in Mayto around 3pm.

We stopped a few time to inquire about Ranger Russo, the guy renting ATVs. We finally found his place but he was on his way back from Puerto.  We were told to communicate with him through Facebook under his name Granger Rousso…no wonder we couldn’t find him before. The first thing we saw when we arrived at the hotel, was that the pool was empty. The receptionist who wasn’t very friendly, gave us the wrong bands to open our doors. Ours was opening the kids door and vice versa. And on top of it, the internet didn’t work. Great!

As we were grabbing our bags, a guy on an ATV dropped someone off.  He happened to be the partner of Granger so we arranged to have the ATVs dropped off at the hotel tomorrow at 10am.

Pogo and I rested for a while, Shaun went fishing and Max organized her photos.  We then drove to Tehuamixtle to show the kids the little fishermen’s village and to have dinner.  We ordered a dozen oysters on the shell and they were so big and unappetizing that we couldn’t finish them.  I’m gagging just writing about them. We shared a big platter of mahi-mahi, shrimp and lobsters with rice and salad.

We got back to the hotel just in time to see the sunset.  We sat in the restaurant, shared coconut pie, had a few drinks and chatted until we were too cold to sit outside.  We went to our shared balcony and sat together a little longer as it was warmer there until we went to bed.
