Mexico – Day 67

Almost every morning I see a little bird sitting on a spiky palm right in front of our balcony. We walked to La Isla for breakfast. All the bougainvilleas were in bloom.

I took a picture of a couple having margaritas at 10am. Pogo asked me why and I said it’s all about content. Graciela had put a lot of overripe fruits and veggies in the parking lot and at one point I counted 13 iguanas and 4 chachalacas. Chachalaca is my new favorite word! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chachalaca

When I was done eating, I went to the back of the restaurant by the bathroom to take more pictures of the iguanas and the chachalacas 🙂 and I tripped, yes for the 3rd time this year, and had a pretty hard full body fall 😦 I scraped one hand and knee. I was covered in dirt and holding back tears. Nobody was around to see me fall, thank god, and I went to the bathroom to clean myself up. I limped all the way home. When Pogo saw the cut on my knee, he said now you have more content…..:(

We stopped at the hotel next door to us so I could make an appointment for a massage for tomorrow as I feel I will need it. My “wounds” didn’t look as bad after my shower, Neosporin and Advil. My ego was still bruised though.

The afternoon was spent mostly on the balcony. Since I’ve know Pogo, he has had the bad habit of always leaving, per example, a few crumbs in a box of cereal or 2 broken crackers in a box or a teaspoon of milk, etc instead of finishing it and throwing it away. Today we had some trail mix from a giant bag we had bought at Costco when we arrived. I thought he had finished it because he went to get some peanuts. I was putting the peanuts away in the cabinet when I saw the bag of trail mix. There were 4 peanuts, 2 M&Ms and one raisin left….Unbelievable….When he reads my blog and questions me for saying this, I will remind him it’s all about content…

We went for dinner at Mama Nena. We started with their drink specialty, a Mezcalita, made with mezcal, pineapple juice, lime juice and triple sec. They didn’t have appetizers on their menu but Manny the waiter, suggested a tortilla soup so we decided to share one. He brought us both a small bowl of noodle soup and it was good but didn’t taste like tortilla soup. 30 seconds later, the tortilla soup arrived. I guess they also served a complimentary soup but he didn’t tell us. We both had the al ajillo mahi-mahi, made with guajillo chile, a not too spicy dried form of chile, garlic, butter and white wine. It was delicious but very intense and I knew I would be having tums before going to bed. Next time I will try the mahi-mahi with just garlic butter. We finished it off with a rice pudding for me, my Mom’s favorite dessert, and a pecan flan for Pogo. The staff as attentive as usual. There was hardly anyone there as they closed the kitchen at 7:30pm so I assume they get busier around 5ish and we had arrived at 6:30pm.

We watched the 6th episode of Vikings Valhalla.
