Mexico – Day 66

I woke up to another cloudy morning. They usually dissipate around 9am but lasted until noon today. I picked up the place before Marta’s arrival at 9:30am. Then we spent the rest of the morning planning and mapping our upcoming trip to Tequila, scheduling our week with the kids and finalizing plans with the landscaper. I didn’t like any of the planting he had suggested so I started researching bushes and perennials.

At 12:30pm, we left with our friends to have lunch at La Vidanta in order to look around the place. It was even bigger than I imagined. We had been there for dinner 6 years ago and it was dark so we didn’t see much. There has been a lot more construction since.

When we arrived at the gate, and after leaving Pogo’s driver’s licence there, we had to drive another 2 kms to the valet parking. Then we had to take a shuttle to the location of our choice. I wanted to see the giant Mayans statues inside the lobby of the Grand Mayan so we went there first. It was impressive. Before getting there, we had to walk a good amount of time on wooden paths and bridges. The place was packed with palm trees and tropical vegetation. It’s beautiful, full of pools and restaurants and they have a great expanse of flat beach as well. I think it would take a full week to discover it all. I would go back for a nice dinner but I would never want to stay there, even though I felt like I was at a Disney resort, because it is way too big. We browsed through La Plaza, a retail place that caters to all their guests with everything you can imagine like a convenience store, a flower shop, a bakery, a cheese and meat counter, a chocolate and pastry counter, a liquor store, jewelry and clothing stores as well as Mexican artifacts. I feel like we just touch the top of the iceberg.

We had lunch at a place called Samba, an outdoor restaurant by one of the pretty pools and we all had club sandwiches. They had all the normal ingredients plus ham and eggs. It was really good.

We found a path bringing us to a shuttle station and made our way to the valet parking. Pogo had been told to call them 20 minutes ahead so the car would be waiting for us. There was a lot of traffic on the highway.

We got back home around 5pm and just chilled in our condo for the rest of evening. The sun set right behind the Marietta Islands tonight.
