While I wrote yesterday’s long blog, we enjoyed an incredible show from 2 whales just flapping their fins and jumping, all pretty close to shore. Pogo was able to drone over them and filmed them for a good 10 minutes.
We left around 11am to go for breakfast with a stop at the carwash. We went to Mama Nena. We felt like we were cheating on La Isla but they are closed on Thursday. Pogo had the huevos rancheros Mama Nena style. The red sauce tasted like a marinara. Pogo loved it. I normally never go for a sweet breakfast but I had read that the french toast were good and they were. Our server Paco, short for Francisco, was really nice and interested to get to know us. A gentleman with a basket full of homemade flavorful bread came to see us. We thought it was expensive at 90 pesos but we still bought a banana pecan bread. He never approached any of the other customers which were all Mexicans…
As we were leaving, the big gate door closed on our car and left black marks on the car. We went to Walmart so Pogo could buy rubbing compound and a cloth to remove them. There were a few people in the parking lot washing cars and they ended up having all the equipment to remove the spots. 5 minutes later, they were done. Pogo gave them the stuff he had bought on top of giving them 200 pesos for their excellent work. They seemed very happy.
We went to Gecko, the car rental place to check on getting a bigger car for when the kids come. They had a pick up truck for the same price but not a lot more legroom and no trunk to put luggage. We were hoping to get a roof rack for our car but they don’t have any. All their minivans are rented as it is March break but Fernanda will get in touch with us if they have a cancellation. Meanwhile, they put air in our tires. The service there is always excellent and friendly. They also told us that they would take 20% off our bill if we pay with pesos instead of a credit card.
We stopped at Starbuck for a cold beverage before getting home at 3pm. I sat on the porch to soak up the sun without the wind. We met our friends in the pool and brought margaritas. We invited them to join us for dinner at Laguna, a seafood place recommended by Graciella.
The restaurant was located by a river and was divided in 2 spaces by big hanging plants. The weird thing was that they had put Mexican people on one side and tourists on the other side. We asked for a table by the water and the only table they had was on the “Mexican” side and that’s when we noticed the weird division. The only thing we didn’t like was that a woman at the table next to us was smoking. We were all cucurrucucu-ed by a trio of musicians.
We all enjoyed our food. Pogo had shrimp tostadas and a house specialty called Zarandeado Fish. I had a clam chowder and a spaghetti with shrimp. Josรฉe had a shrimp stuffed avocado and had the same spaghetti with shrimp as me. Mario had a mixed seafood “snack” with shrimp, octopus, snail and oyster as well as a seafood spaghetti. Our friends brought wine and the restaurant charged 200 pesos for uncorking fees which is now a common thing restaurants do if you bring your own wine. We practically closed the place and they kept coming to the table to check on us. We got the message and left around 9:45pm.
I forgot to mention that 2 nights ago, while in Bucerias, Josรฉe almost had her purse stolen while having dinner at an outside restaurant. Her purse was on the table and suddenly she saw a hand grabbing it. Mario was so quick that he put his hand on the purse as well and the thief just turned around and ran. Mario got up quickly, knocking everything from the table to the ground, and started running after him, not a easy thing to do on cobblestones when wearing flip flops but the kid just disappeared in the dark. It has been happening a lot in Bucerias.
