Mexico – Day 44

I love waking up with the full moon reflecting on the ocean.

We went to D Bistro for breakfast than Pogo dropped me off at the Pilates studio. When I was done, he was waiting for a haircut next door. We came back at the condo at noon. I picked up the place, finished the laundry while Pogo went to the beach.

We joined our friends at La Gaviota for a shrimp taco lunch. A friend of ours, let’s just call him “Calin” for anonymity purposes, went to the bathroom and forgot to close his door. Mario grabbed my phone and took a few pictures. Since I tell my dear readers everything, and “Calin” isn’t one of them, I included a picture of that embarrassing moment….Sorry Alain! I mean “Calin”.

We went back to our lounge chairs and sat on the beach for a few hours enjoying the kitesurfers and the birds stealing food from people leaving their stuff unattended.

We finally were able to take Graciela and Andreas out for dinner to La Traviata, an Italian restaurant they had chosen when we invited them. The food was really good! We shared calamari and beef carpaccio. They shared a pizza and salad and Pogo had fettuccine carbonara and I had penne bolognese. They ordered an award winning reicilla from El Tuito for us to try. It was really strong but good. We finished it off with dried cricket salt and fruits.

The restaurant, located in Puerto Vallarta, was on top of an hotel with a great view of the bay and we enjoyed a beautiful sunset. The service was slow, we were there from 6:30pm till 10pm, as the restaurant was full but it gave us time to really chat and get to know each other. Graciela has 3 sons, one is a lawyer living in PV, one is a tour owner in Guanajuato (wish we had talked to her about our trip before going) and one is working in a big warehouse in Tijuana. She has 4 grandchildren all living in Guanajuato.

Andreas has 2 teenager sons, one living in Punta de Mita and one in PV.

We talked about mezcal and reicilla places to visit when Max comes in March as well as fishing places for Shaun. They gave us some tips about Talpa de Allande, good tequila and some restaurants. We heard some funny stories about the restaurant and about some of their future plans for it. They work really hard. We had some good laughs and we really enjoyed our evening.

On a different note, I keep finding dead birds.
