We met up with Deidre and Derrick at 8:30am and walked around until we found a breakfast place. We found one called Mama Mia in a beautiful courtyard. Their cafe de olla was half coffee half chocolate and was yummy. After breakfast, we walked some more. The square was quiet because of being still early enough which was nice. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of doors, windows, murals, decorations, alleys, etc on our way back to the hotel. It was now 11am and when we had left earlier, it was only 48F but it had warmed up to 66F so we went back to change.
We took off again an hour later to go to the Mercado de Artisanias, a huge and colorful indoor/outdoor market. There was food and flowers but mostly artisans work. A feast for the eyes! We spent a little over 2 hours browsing through.
San Miguel is built on steep hills so we took a taxi back and because all the narrow streets are one way, I feel it was the best way to really see the town as the driver went back and forth, up and down, on about a dozen different streets. Of course all the streets are cobblestoned so at times, I thought I was on a roller-coaster.
I spent some time working on my blog and was finally able to add pictures to it. Pogo went on the rooftop to read but came back after an hour because he was cold and to take a nap.
We went back to the same restaurant as last night but went on the rooftop instead and had a bunch of tapas. Every single one was outstanding, We shared tuna tostadas, tartare tuna tacos, beef with chorizo and pork rind tacos, shrimp dumplings, tempura shrimp bowl and spanish croquettes. It got really cold as soon as the sun set. It was a quick walk up the hill to our hotel.
We reserved tickets on a luxury bus for tomorrow morning to go to Guanajuato.
