Mexico – Day 17

Today was cloudy once more. Marta came to clean the condo. We are a little upset that she keeps charging us more. From 350 pesos to 500 now. Especially because we asked her to come every week this year instead of every 2 weeks. What is more upsetting is that our friends’ cleaning lady comes every week, stays 5 hours and is paid by the owner of the condo. I know it is not a lot of money but it’s the principle.

Today to switch things up, we went TWICE to La Isla! Breakfast was fruit platter and avocado toasts and dinner was ribs and jericalla for dessert which is the mexican version of crème brulé. It is really a “flan brulé”. Andreas told us that a long time ago, the cook in a Guadalajara’s orphanage had made flan for dessert and left it too long in the oven and the top burned. He was about to get rid of it but the kids tried it and love it! At least, so the story goes.

We love it there, first because the food is great, because they became friends, it’s a short walk or drive from the condo, and also because we feel safe sitting outside there with just a few other people around.

I went for a massage next door at 11am with Lola who was recommended by Mario. She’s one of the few that speaks English. The room was small but breezy. The massage was very nice even though I wore my mask the whole time. When she was done and I had just finished getting dressed, a couple who had just finished their massages next door to me, opened my curtain (no doors) to get out of their room which at that point I realized was connected to mine. Not too much privacy….

The afternoon was spent at Costco, La Comer and Starbucks. We watched the latest episode of Boba Fett.
