Nuevo Nayarit, Mexico – Day 58-59

March 8 and 9, 2024

Morning are definitely getting lazier and when we go out for breakfast, which is almost every day :), we leave later and later. I definitely have my morning routine of drinking my 2 coffees, catching up on news and emails, writing my blogs, doing my Spanish lessons on Duolingo and doing walking exercises when my knees are not hurting too much. On the days that Pogo doesn’t go to pickleball, he catches up on news and tik toks, haha!

We said goodbye to more people today. Everyone is slowly going back home.

We arrived at La Isla at 11:15am and Andreas was there so we chatted a little bit with him. We lingered there for awhile. We went to pick up a few things at the store and before you knew it, it was 2pm, almost time for Pogo’s required nap, especially on pickleball days. I reserved tickets at la Cabane à Sucre for Shaun, Sarah and us on our return home. I made an appointment for my haircut. I made appointments to see a dentist and a dermatologist next week here. The next few weeks will be busy busy.

We did some balconville then we went to the pool. I saw people taking wedding photos on the beach. We had steaks on the bbq and watched the end of The Tourist and the beginning of Shogun.

Saturday morning, Pogo went to pickleball and had breakfast with his group afterwards at No Soy Juan. He then took Mario to the hospital in PV for a colonoscopy. It is so much quicker to get these kinds of appointments here than it is in Canada and in the States. I talked to Elaine for an hour in the morning then I spent the afternoon with Josée.

We had an early dinner at Tarantella and I tried the salmone al limone, a salmon with a lemon sauce with dill and capers with parmesan mashed potatoes and veggies. Pogo tried the cannelloni allo zafferano, cannelloni stuffed with shrimp and ricotta with a creamy saffron sauce and mushroom. It is becoming one of our favorite restaurant. We had tried it last year when they opened, and had not been impressed but the food has really improved. We brought back lasagnas and caesar salad for our friends.

We came back just in time for the sunset. We watched another episode of Shogun.

Maxime’s travels update:

She has been spending time on Bantayan, an island about 3 hours from Cebu City. She rented a little house with a yard and a cat for $24 a night. To get there, she was going to take a 6 hour bus to the ferry when someone at the bus station suggested to her to take a 3 hour van service instead, for the same price. She did but the guy had not told her that they would squished 4 people into 2 person seats. Since they do the same thing in buses, I guess it wasn’t so bad. She then took a ferry to Bantayan. She said it is a really quiet little island with barely any other tourists. She loves it and feels really safe. She found a Mexican restaurant and she has been going there every night for the pulled pork burrito. You can’t get Mexico out of her for too long. She has been hanging at the beach mostly and she said the sunsets have been amazing.
