Sylvie's Travels Home

March 3 and 4, 2024.

Martha showed up at 9:30am and was telling us that she had had the flu for a week. She had taken her mom, who is from Sayulita to the doctor last week, so maybe that’s where she got it since there are so many cases there? She told us that her mom had dementia and she said that she started being sick when her dad passed away 2 years ago without a will, because of being heartbroken and because of the fighting between the 7 siblings.

We went to Mr Cream for breakfast in Bucerias to kill time and we took a walk afterwards. We went to Chedraui to pick up a few groceries. My afternoon was spent waiting on the phone to speak with someone at the US Custom and Border Protection office to figure out how to get a Nexus card. After an hour on hold, the agent told me that I could renew my Global Entry card as a Nexus card. Since my card was ready to be renewed, I worked online for another hour updating and filling out the rest of the information needed. Now my application is pending review. I will then need to have an interview at a Nexus enrollment center by both Canadian and US law enforcement. Strangely, it is cheaper than Global Entry ($50 instead of $100) but will give us access to a faster entry in Canadian airports (just like Global Entry in the States), keep our Global Entry in the States and give us the Nexus access at both US and Canadian land borders.

We didn’t do much the rest of the day. We ate at home and watched TV.

Tuesday morning, Pogo went to pickleball and I went to the market with Josée. We were there for a few hours. We might have bought a few shiny thingies. After lunch, we sat on the beach for awhile. We went to play dice by the pool and the boys won again. We took a quick dip in the pool then got ready to go to Bucerias to take Mario and Josée to dinner at Mezzogiorno, our gift for their 25th wedding anniversary. We had an excellent meal and just as much fun as we always have together. We stopped for churros on our way out of town because, duh!
