Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico – Day 23-24

February 2 and 3, 2024

Today was a very lazy day and I LOVED every minute of it.

Did I go for a walk with Deidre? Nope! My belly was actually hurting so I did some laundry instead.

Derrick took the car to pickleball than Pogo drop him off at the hospital for his MRI. Pogo was on his way to the fishmonger to go buy some tuna when I let him know just in time that Dee and Michel, who were supposed to come for wine and appetizers over the afternoon had just cancelled, so he went to La Comer to pick up a few things and went back to the hospital to wait for Derrick. Was I disappointed that our guests cancelled at the last minute? Nope! I was happy about not to have to pick up the house and to prepare food. I was feeling quite tired all day so it was a blessing in disguise.

Ryan my little buddy came knocking at the door around 11am to say hello so I invited him to play “la bataille”, a card game he likes to play with me. We both won one game each. While chatting with him, I asked him if he enjoyed visiting his grandparents here in the warm weather. He said yes and you too. He stole my heart right there. He is almost six years old.

Deidre and I sat by the pool until the boys joined us then we went next door for lunch. Pogo and I shared a burger. It was the first time trying one there and it was quite good. Derrick had the shrimp tacos and Deidre had the shrimp tostada.

I spent the rest of the afternoon upstairs resting. Pogo was in the pool. Derrick went for a massage. Deidre eventually joined me upstairs and we sat on the balcony for awhile listening to Sade. Pogo made us some margaritas and we had the shrimp cocktail, one of the appetizer intended for our no show guests.

We went to La Isla for dinner. We didn’t have reservations but they found a table for us. Unfortunately they were out of a lot of the food we wanted, no pork shanks, no BBQ ribs, no Vallarta shrimp but we still made the most of it and enjoyed the evening.

Saturday morning the boys played pickleball, Deidre went for a walk and I stayed in bed. I then picked up, folded some laundry, cleaned some fruits until everyone came back. We were all in the car going for breakfast and to do errands when the guard told us that the repairmen had just arrived to fix our air conditioning. Pogo and I stayed back and Derrick and Deidre went to the hospital to get his MRI’s images and to buy a suitcase at La Comer. On the way there, Derrick was stopped for going through a red light. The earliest he could have paid for the ticket was Tuesday, since Monday is a holiday here and he would have had to leave his driver’s license with the policeman. Because they were leaving tomorrow anyway, he offered to pay the policeman right away. Of course, he agreed right away. He asked for 1800 pesos ($105usd) but settled for 1400 pesos ($82usd), their leftover pesos. Robbery!

They came back here and the repairmen were still working on the ac. It took them almost 2 hours. They changed the fan and the fan motor. It is now working but it is very noisy. Hopefully it will continue working.

It was now past noon so we decided to go for lunch at Sukha in Bucerias. The road there was worst than ever with all the construction of the new condos. The restaurant location is incredible though. The food was ok. We all had the caesar salad with grilled shrimp. They used to serve it with a parmesan bowl but this time, we hardly had any cheese and the dressing wasn’t very tasty. Even the 2 for 1 margaritas won’t convince me to go back there until they fix the road.

More balconville for the afternoon since the beach and pool were very busy. Before we knew it, it was time for dinner. I wasn’t very hungry but everyone else was so we went to Ciao. Pogo and Deidre had pizza and Derrick and I had pasta. They had an amazing singer who sang some Abba, Celine Dion, opera, you name it, she could sing it.

I realized that I didn’t take a lot of pictures the last 2 days but of the food. Oh well.

Maxime’s travels update:

While in Coron, Luna and her went on a private tour for the day around the lakes and lagoons of Coron. They had a staff of 5 just for the 2 of them. They had a lunch made for them on a floating little cabana. They did some of the best snorkeling ever. They saw a shipwreck from a battle between the USA and Japan from WW2. She sent me amazing pictures! She will be going on an island hopping boat expedition for a few days next and probably won’t have cell service. Can’t wait to hear all about it!
