Dijon, France Day 4

Place de la Libération

September 28, 2023

I woke up at 7:30 and finished writing my blog. Pogo woke up at 8:30am. The shower was in our bedroom so I had to wait until he woke up to shower. I managed to ‘shower’ the whole floor, trying to figure out how it worked. One of my biggest challenges while traveling always is to figure out how to work the showers.

The 4 of us had coffee at the apartment then we walked into town to get breakfast. We shared baguettes and jam, eggs and galette de sarrazin (buckwheat crepe) with ham and emmenthal cheese. Yummy!

Through an app, we did a self guided tour of the city. It lasted about an hour and was really interesting. Through it, we found a few hidden courtyards that were amazing and we would never had gone to see them without the tour. We also found out that there are a few owls on buildings that became the symbol of Dijon. They don’t know why they are there but if you touch them with your left hand, it supposedly will bring you good luck.

Afterwards, Bob and Heather went on their own and had a nice lunch, did some shopping and brought pastries back to the apartment to share. Pogo and I found a little café to have a cold beverage and we shared an almond lemon cake. It ruined our appetite for lunch.

We took a free electric shuttle that took us around the city for the next 45 minutes. It could sit only 12 people but most of the time we were by ourselves. We drove all around the old part of Lyon.

We came back to the apartment at 2pm and Bob and Heather arrived not too long after us. They took a nap then we shared the delicious pastries they had bought.

We went back to the Place of Libération or as it became known as the rounded square :). We had a few drinks enjoying people watching and dogs playing in the fountains.

We had dinner at La Petite Flamande, a restaurant I had found online as a recommendation for a local dish called coq au vin. We just happened to walk by it and decided to eat there. It ended up being our favorite meal yet. The boys had jambon persillés, a pâté and the girls had delicious escargots bourguignonnes. We all had the coq au vin but for Pogo who had the beef bourguignon. We had a yummy dessert and a great bottle of wine as well. Just for the record, some inquiring minds were wondering if we had had any French wine. But of course!! Every day as a matter of fact and it has been really good!!

We came home totally full at 10pm and were supposed to play a game but someone who shall remain nameless, but let’s just call him Polo for the fun of it, decided he was too tired and went to bed instead.
