February 18 and 19, 2023
Max, Hernan and I picked Pogo up from pickleball and went to Mama Nena for breakfast. Max and Hernan worked all afternoon. Pogo took a nap and I spent most of the afternoon on the phone with Martin then Brigitte talking about Tante Lise and I spent an hour catching up with Shaun. I also facetimed with Tante Lise. They are really hoping she can go home on Monday.
We went to Sonorita Al Pastor for dinner and went to La Isla for a drink afterwards.
We spent the day on Sunday driving around to show Hernan all the different little towns that we like. We started in Ricon de Guayabitos and had my favorite chicken at Chicken Boy! We walked on the beach a little bit then drove to Lo de Marcos. While on the beach, Max noticed what seemed to be an abandoned structure on the side of the mountain. For some reasons, Shaun and her love to go explore abandoned houses.
It became our quest for the next hour but we finally found it. There were 2 girls there when we arrived. While my crew went on the unfinished upper floors (my vertigo stopped me from going) I chatted with them. One of them, from Scotland, who had been living in Lo de Marcos said that the construction of the house had halted 3 years ago because the owner ran out of money. The locals have nicknamed it Dracula’s castle. If they ever finish it, it will be quite a house with an amazing view of the beach and of the ocean. I’m not sure if there is a new owner because there were a bunch of cement bags and a few machines that I assume by now would have been stolen but there was definitely a lot of dust everywhere. We all took a ton of pictures and Pogo droned. We left when a bunch of unfriendly kids on motorcycles arrived, set themselves up at a makeshift table and started rolling some joints.
We made our way down the dusty mountain road to our next stop: San Pancho. We tried to go to see the horses at the polo ground but they now have a new gate and the guard wouldn’t let us through. We went in town, walked around then drove to Sayulita. We parked, found the vendor where Max had bought a woven bag 5 years ago that she wanted to replace it. They had some very similar so she bought one and I did too. We met the boys on the beach for a beverage, walked through the center of the town and left.
Our last stop was in Punta de Mita. We were starving by then so went to La Cabana, a new restaurant to us. It was casual and colorful and the food ended up being really good. I had coconut shrimp that fed all of us, the portion was so big. Pogo had fish tacos and Max and Hernan shared shrimp tacos and a shrimp burrito.
We got back home at 8:30pm, sat for a few minutes and all decided to go to bed, exhausted after 10 hours on the road but happy with our day.
Shaun sent me some amazing pictures of the latest snow.

That Dracula’s Castle would make a great house😍
