Nuevo Vallarta Day 13

January 22, 2023

The tide has been unusually high. I’ve heard it’s because the 2 hurricanes late last year, damaged the beach. Pogo went running and then we went to Dstock for breakfast (I always thought it was just called D).

We dropped off a few groceries to Dee (lots of D this morning) which we had picked up for her yesterday. Then we went on one of our favorite excursion, the Ameca River.

Instead of going through Bucerias, our usual route, Pogo decided to drive through Mezcales instead. It was nice to see different villages and towns on the way. We passed through San Vincente, San Jose, El Porvenir and San Juan de Abago among others. We thought by going early in the season, the river wouldn’t be too dry but it was probably the driest we have seen it. The little bit of water falling over the retaining wall was used by a family, first to wash their folding chairs, then as a place to hang out. They put a big umbrella up and just sat by the “waterfall” and had snacks. Right in the middle of the road. Being Sunday, a lot of family were enjoying sitting by the river and swimming.

We continued our drive and ended up at the Restaurante Rio Ameca, which we had discovered last year. We were not hungry but we felt like we needed to order food as the place was quite empty. Pogo ordered tostadas and I had a shrimp quesadilla. We also had guacamole. The food was fresh and delicious. We both ordered a coke and we got half liter bottles! All for a total of 210 pesos or $10.50 USD. We love it there because it is quiet, in the middle of nowhere, full of tires sculptures and has a beautiful view. We will go back.

On our drive, we saw a bunch of cowboys, a circus tent being put up, beautiful scenery and even found an old bullfight ring.

Shaun send me gorgeous pictures he took today after the snowfall and it made me want to go home…just kidding! His pictures were amazing but I’m happy to be warm 🙂 I do miss him though.

We came back by 3pm and just relaxed at the condo. Ryan came knocking at the door to introduce me to his Mom, her boyfriend and his kids. What a cutie! He also asked if I wanted to play cards even though they were on their way to dinner. HaHa!

Pogo really wanted to go to La Sonorita again for Al Pastor tacos. I was not hungry at all but I decided to try something new: Al Pastor on potatoes with melted cheese. It was very tasty. I brought most of it home.

  1. loving all your writing, Syl! I cannot wait to come down. Derrick is talking about the end of March, I may see if I can twist his arm a bit. He’s going to see friends in Florida at the end of Feb (I have no desire to set foot in Florida) so he may not want to turn around and head back out, but maybe we could come in earlier March! We will discuss. Also it looks like you are having fun w/pickleball! Thats great. I played yesterday for the first time in a long time. definitely a nice way to kill an hour. Are you continuing with the jazzercise, too? That is great you are both staying so active.

We also toy with the idea of traveling again for a week– however, after last year and the frantic pace we had in Mexico I so want to have a leisurely visit and walk on beaches and lollygag by water (pool or ocean). Maybe the boys can go off on an adventure for a few days and we can stay at the condo.

I am close to 100% better. Thank goodness. Been working hard on regaining all the weight I lost 😦 It’s snowing up here, and I’ve been without a car as mine is in the shop. I haven’t technically worked in the shop since 12/23! I’m working a lot from home (the bills keep coming) and placing orders and scheduling people.

gotta scoot, just wanted to touch base and let you know how much I’m enjoying the writing! Keep it up! Also, you mentioned Dee– the same lady? Is she by herself right now? I’ll have to go back and reread and see if there is some juicy gossip I missed!

talk soon! Enjoy the warm weather!! xxoo D
