Oaxaca, Mexico- Day 8

October 25 2022

I think Pogo might have had a stomach bug similar to mine after all.  He started feeling better around 11am.

We went for a light breakfast at 10am after packing our bags, then we went to the hacienda’s museum, a few floors over the restaurant. Besides a few interesting old pictures, It was not much of a museum but we had beautiful views of the property.

We left at 11:30am for our long drive to Oaxaca. It was one stressful drive, at least for me. We were on a two lanes zigzagging highway, up and down mountains, and everyone was passing on both sides the whole time. Trucks and cars would move to the shoulder to let faster cars pass them, no matter if there was incoming traffic, just assuming that incoming traffic would also move to their shoulder. It didn’t matter if it was on a curve or uphill, it was the free for all. Max was apparently an expert at that kind of driving but I didn’t think I would survive the stress. Despite my ignored request for Pogo or Max to hit me in the face and knock me out of my misery, we finally made it to Oaxaca at 5pm.  We first went to pick up a suitcase Max had left with her friend Eric, who happened to be her old neighbor at her first apartment in Oaxaca. He also had the keys of her old place since the renters were not arriving for another week so It was nice to finally see it in person. We invited Eric to join us for dinner tomorrow night.

When we arrived at the house Max had rented for us, it wasn’t ready even though she had told the owner we would arrive in the morning. She was so upset with the owner and she certainly gave her a earful. She had stayed there 3 weeks prior and half of what was listed on the website was missing. Β Most importantly she didn’t have hot water the whole time she was there and there wasn’t any shades or curtains in the windows. Β She had left her a long list of things to fix but because she had already paid for the place, she had never told us any of it until today.Β

We had no choice but to leave until the place got cleaned up so we went to the center of town and went to a little terrace and had a drink and bite to eat. I obviously took pictures of a few doorways and a church!

We went back to the house at 7:30pm and it looked much better. Β It is a three bedrooms, 2 level house but with a kind of indoor/small outdoor courtyard concept. The stairs going from the living room to the 3 bedrooms upstairs are outside, inside the small courtyard. The bathroom upstairs is also outside on the open air balcony. Β Not sure my description makes a lot of sense but I’ll take pictures tomorrow when it’s daylight.Β The feature image is of the outside of the house we are renting with the painted hummingbirds.

On a sad note, Penny had to have another surgery today as she had removed the drain from her abscess. I feel so bad for my poor puppy.
