Little update.
Our last morning went as planned, finishing packing and cleaning. We returned the car and they drove us to the airport.
We checked our bags then went to a lounge with Max. Before we knew it, it was time to say our tearful goodbyes. I will miss her tremendously but she should be back in Vermont at the beginning of July.
Our first flight left on time at 2:15pm and we were in Atlanta by 6pm. Everything went really fast going through customs, especially having global entry, picking up and dropping off our luggage. We spent a few hours at another lounge then were at the gate for boarding.
That’s when the fun started… we boarded the plane almost an hour late. There was that one kid with the most annoyingly bad behavior, screaming, crying and running away from his mother who was holding her crying baby. They were part of a group but nobody seemed to want to help her.
We finally boarded and left the gate. The pilot said that bad weather was coming our way so we were not allowed to take off just yet. An hour and a half later, we returned to the gate as the crew had exceeded their allotted flying hours.
After disembarking, we were asked to stay at the gate for more updates. The weather was pretty bad by then with crazy lightings. After almost another hour, we were told that our flight was rescheduled for the next morning at 8am. It was 12:30am by then. Pogo and I decided to go to an hotel, mind you, it was at our own expense. The representative told us that they would keep our checked luggage which made it easier for us to leave. We took a shuttle to the Embassy Suites and went to sleep at 1:30am and woke up at 4:30am. We found out that our flight was now at 8:50am so we tried to squeeze another 30 more minutes of sleep.
We took the 5:30am shuttle, went through security again and went to another lounge. We had breakfast and coffee. Meanwhile our flight was once more delayed till 9:10am. It was a rather uneventful flight especially because they had told us we would hit bad turbulence and we didn’t, thank goodness. We saw our bay from the sky.
We finally landed in Vermont at 11:30am, picked our luggage and got in our car. Shaun and his friend Billy had generously taken the time to drop it off.
We were so tired but for some reasons, we weren’t able to sleep in the plane We stopped at Chicken Charlie for lunch and brought home a salad for dinner. We picked up the accumulated mail at the post office and finally were home at 1pm. It hasn’t stopped raining since. My house looks like the top picture of the dusty cars.
I have to admit that these past 3 months have been fantastic! Reconnecting with our friends Mario and Josée and having lots of laughter and adventures was exactly what we needed when we arrived in Mexico. Our time with Derrick and Deidre was also full of discovering new Mexican towns and incredible food. It was such a special time having Max and Shaun all to ourselves. We traveled to many places and made lots of new memories. I will always cherish every moments of it.
Now, back to reality!!

Welcome home.
