Mexico – Day 4

We finally walked to Starbucks, “Pancho” ordered our coffees and we sat outside to drink them. Routine is back! We walked inside the mall to see if there was anything new and the answer was no.

While walking we saw new hotels and condos and more being built.

We rediscovered the beach and spent the afternoon there. We saw a few more people we know like Olga and Norbert who are from Chicago. They said that they came to Mexico last year even though they had not been vaccinated yet. They said all the condos were rented to Mexicans all winter and it was quite busy and loud because they always come with large families and love to party. Most restaurants were closed but besides going to the grocery stores, they just hung out by the pool.

We decided to go back to La Isla to see Andreas. He was just as friendly as usual. We had noticed how organized and efficient the restaurant was now. The bar is being used as well as the grill which emptied up the kitchen and it really looked nice. He said they are always thinking about improvements. They might install a TV by the bar and offer tacos after 10pm for late night snacks. They also have music every night and we really enjoyed the musician playing the pan flute that night.

He recommended a new item on their menu (I don’t remember the name) but it was pork in a delicious sauce with potatoes. Yummy! We also shared a cheesecake. They have a new bakery chef working for them called Daniella. She makes all the bread and dessert and they are really happy with her.

After dinner, he came to sit with us and brought 3 bottles of Mexican liquor for us to try. 2 were a little sweet and would be good served in a coffee. The 3rd one called Raicilla was fire in a bottle! Max had told us a little bit about it and I had decided to try one of their new drinks called Pepiño made with Raicilla. It was strong but was diluted with lime and cucumber juice. It’s a different story when you sip it by itself. Raicilla originated in the south western part of the Mexican state of Jalisco. Like tequila and mezcal, it is a product of the agave plant. Andreas is going to Mascota really soon to meet up with distillers. We told him that we would love to go for a tour and he said he will arrange it for us.
