Last night Shaun slept over so he could bring us all to the airport. Max was flying to Cancun via Washington D.C. and we were flying to Puerto Vallarta thru Atlanta, having to stay overnight because Delta changed our flights.
It was quite windy when we left the house at 6am so I got a little anxious about turbulence but by the time we took off, it was much better.
Max had issues with not being able to get her boarding pass online. After checking in ourselves with Delta, we went in line at United to hold her spot while she spoke to an agent, to no avail. She finally tried paying online to check her carry-on luggage and was able to get a boarding pass. So weird.
What was also weird is that we ran into Chip Ward and his girlfriend at our gate. They were also on their way to Atlanta. I found it awkward as I had not seen him since his divorce from Donna. Pogo and him caught up and his girlfriend and I just stood there.
After boarding, I suddenly saw Max coming on our plane! It was actually a girl that looked exactly like her! I included a picture of her doppelganger.
I had a good laugh on the flight. The flight attendant asked us if we wanted the box of charcuterie or bakery for breakfast. We couldn’t really hear her with her mask on. Pogo said he would have the first box. I asked him what it was and he said, it is the chick-a-pea box….And the flight attendant said no! It is the charcuterie box! All I could think about was the movie Nell. I couldn’t stop giggling for about an hour.
We arrived in Atlanta at 11am, got our luggage and took a taxi to the Renaissance Hotel, facing the tarmac. We thought we would just stay in the room until our flight the next day and order room service. They told us that they had stopped room service since Covid started. We had to go have lunch and dinner downstairs surrounded with people with no masks. We found a quiet spot to eat and went back to our room.
The noise from the planes taking off and landing was quite loud all day in our bedroom, as well as the Youth Ministry conference in the atrium. It finally quieted down around midnight.
It wasn’t an interesting day but it brought us closer to our destination.
